I was booked by one of my regular clients to shoot another nightclub event which is currently my bread and butter of my photography business. The difficulty of nightclub events is dependent upon the crowd. As a nightclub photographer you also have be a people person and be able to get people to pose for you and accept rejection when they don’t won’t want to be photographed.
The event was full within an hour of it starting which was excellent. The more people drank the more comfortable and relaxed they were which made my job easier. Once I got a few good shoots I felt comfortable and got settled in for the night as the throttling pain in my ankle continued throughout the night. With such a full venue it made moving around a bit difficult and keeping extra heads, arms, and legs out of a picture once I got a group of people to pose for me was a challenge. The crowd shoots are easy but it took some trial and error to get the look that I wanted in the pictures. Since I was coping with a bad ankle I wanted to be as efficient as possible and I think I did a good job by taking 117 photos and delivering 93 final images to my client.
I locked in my camera settings and focused on capturing moment since people aren’t very patient at nightclubs and they don’t want you turning dials and switching lenses before you take their picture. I shot at ISO 2000, between f4-5.6, a shutter speed between 1/8-1/30 of a second and I put a bounce card on my Nikon SB 600 flash. With a full house I only shoot at 28mm with my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens.
Overall I was happy with the results that I got from the event. The people who attended the event had a fun night, my client was happy and I was able to sleep well at night knowing that I did another good job.
